Released in April 2020, the Umidigi A7 Pro is a pretty reliable budget smartphone. When I first got this device, I didn’t exactly know what to expect as it’s the first Umidigi smartphone I ever bought. The Umidigi A7 Pro is the slightly higher upgrade of the Umidigi A7, which was released after the Pro version of the A7 series. Checkout our review based on the following categories:
Display
The Umidigi A7 Pro has a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display. With it’s FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, you can play games like PUBG Mobile at HD graphics quality. Although, you might not be impressed with the gaming experience (regarding PUBG Mobile particularly).
The display, though, is great for streaming videos and movies at very good quality without stuttering. The Umidigi A7 has a larger screen size but a lower resolution.
Camera
Being a budget smartphone, the camera quality is great for its price. It packs a quadruple rear camera setup of 16 + 16 + 5 + 5 Megapixels and a 16 Megapixel selfie camera. The quad rear camera setup is made up of the primary sensor, an ultra wide lens, a depth sensor, and a macro sensor. So, you can easily capture photographs with a background blur effect or capture macro shots.

RAM/Storage
The Umidigi A7 Pro has 4GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage options. The user-available storage is not exactly up to 64GB or 128GB though, as the system software uses up a few gigabytes (as with all phones).
OS/Processor
The A7 Pro is powered by Octa-core MediaTek Helio P23 chipset and an ARM Mali G71 MP2 graphics processor. This chip and GPU are quite good and reliable for a budget smartphone. It runs the stock Android 10 Operating System; processes apps and multitasks fairly well. For high-end usage, though, you might require better processing power. Design
The device comes in two colour options: Ocean Blue and Cosmic Black. The Cosmic Black looks and feels nice in hand, but the phone is kind of heavy compared to phones with its exact specs and higher that are lighter when held.
I like big phones. And its 158.7 x 74.9 x 8.5 mm dimensions fits perfectly fine in my palms. It’s also easy to operate with one hand, if you’re used to such phones.

Battery life
The battery life is just good. It packs a 4150mAh battery capacity and is capable of 10W charging. On heavy use, I get to charge it just once a day. And it doesn’t run totally down before it’s recharged.
Gaming Test
While this smartphone isn’t exactly phone built for gaming, you can’t spend your entire free time on social media. You need to exercise your fingers a little while playing your favourite games—or at least games your smartphone can run smoothly.
I tried two popular games (PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile) on this smartphone, but the result wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. But it’s only fair to state that, for a smartphone of $99.99 USD, it performed well. I mean, those are high-end games.
On PUBG Mobile, I was able to play the game in HD graphics quality, but it was totally unplayable for me. The lag was terrible. When I turned down graphics quality to lowest and maxed out Frame Rate, it was better. But still terrible for me.
COD Mobile, on the other hand, was better. The maximum graphics quality possible is Medium, and the frame rate doesn’t exceed High. Setting these graphics quality to the highest level shown is a bad idea. The lag will piss you off. To play CoD: Mobile on the Umidigi A7 Pro, set the graphics quality to the lowest and the frame rate to high. It’s manageable that way.
I don’t actually have this device anymore, but here’s a gaming review of the Umidigi A7 Pro by one of our authors, @Augusta.
