How to flash FTF firmware on Sony Xperia phones

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for flashing stock FTF firmware on your Sony Xperia smartphone using Flashtool.

Requirements:

  1. Xperia FTF firmware - Find yours
  2. Flashtool (v0.9.18.6) - Download

Flashing Procedure:

Step 1: Install Flashtool

Run the downloaded Flashtool software and complete the installation.

Step 2: Install Drivers

Navigate to C:\Flashtool\drivers and install both the flashmode and Xperia drivers.

Step 3: Prepare Firmware

Copy the downloaded .ftf firmware file to C:\Flashtool\firmwares.

Step 4: Launch Flashtool

In C:\Flashtool, run Flashtool.exe (32-bit) or Flashtool64.exe (64-bit).

Step 5: Select Flashing Mode

Click on the lightning bolt icon, then select "Flashmode".

From the 'Firmware Selector' popup, select your downloaded firmware and click "Flash".

Step 7: Enter Flashmode

  1. Disconnect your Xperia device if it's connected to the computer.
  2. Power off the device.
  3. Press and hold the flashmode button combination for your device.
  4. While holding the button(s), connect the device to the PC via USB.

The flashing process will begin automatically. Wait for it to complete.

Step 9: Reboot

Once flashing is complete, disconnect and reboot your Xperia device if it doesn't restart automatically.

You have successfully flashed the stock firmware on your Sony Xperia device. Your phone should now boot into the newly installed system.
