The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into mobile operating systems is now the norm. Xiaomi, while initially quiet, is now demonstrating its commitment to intelligent functionalities. As Android 15 undergoes testing on the Xiaomi 14, and with the nearing release of HyperOS 2.0, the developer version in China reveals the company’s AI integration plans. These plans appear to center around embedding generative AI tools directly within the operating system.
Xiaomi Integrates Generative AI into Notes App

Kacper Skrzypek, developer of the popular Xiaomi.eu ROM, discovered AI-generated summaries within the Notes app. This mirrors tools like ChatGPT, enabling Xiaomi’s AI to create summaries of text. This feature functions with both typed and pasted text. When links are included, the AI can even pull relevant web information to enhance the summaries. Furthermore, pasting text from the clipboard triggers the AI to generate an expanded version.
It is important to note that HyperOS’s AI functions require an internet connection. This suggests that processing happens on remote servers, not on the device itself. Skrzypek’s testing also revealed a potential censorship mechanism. When summarizing a Wikipedia article on Tiananmen Square, the AI responded with “This content is sensitive.” This suggests content moderation functionalities within Xiaomi’s AI tools.
These initial tests are limited to the Chinese version of HyperOS. The global performance of the AI assistant remains to be seen. We can anticipate a more prominent role for AI in the upcoming HyperOS 2.0. This updated operating system will likely launch alongside Android 15 in the coming months. This development highlights Xiaomi’s commitment to enhancing user experience through intelligent features. The company is solidifying its position in the competitive landscape of AI-powered smartphones.
